Our clients vision was to create an oasis, hence its name “Villa Petit Oasis”. The design approach was therefor to restore all that is possible to a contemporary pallet of color and the concept of extending the living space. Fitting its new lodging function, the additions, a wooden deck with a pool and a gazebo, subtly expand the possibilities of leisure around, among others, a existing calabash tree. This is based on the analysis of the alternating highs and lows of the natural landscape, in combination to the valued characteristics of views, orientation and surroundings. The Masterplan for a new lodging function on the Island is also based on creating the possibility for the visitors to interact with ecology, for example practicing agriculture and recycling, and also having a natural ambiance of wooden cottages and local vegetation in combination to the natural and partly created environment. Thus the concept is creating a regenerative natural balance between lodging, recreation, and ecology." Large openings, covered terraces and the pool area create a natural extension of the living spaces, while the separated roof volumes give the villa a calm, contemporary tropical character. With a total indoor program of approximately 341 m², complemented by 120m² of covered outdoor living and a pool, the house is designed around comfort, shade, breeze and family life. The design introduces a simple concrete frame with a warm timber pergola structure, offering shade, seating and a calm place to pause along the water. Its open character keeps the connection to the marina, the boats and the surrounding landscape, while the lighting gives the pavilion a clear presence in the evening. With a modest footprint of approximately 21 m², the project adds a functional and carefully detailed outdoor space to the existing marina setting.
